The most common method of transportation in international trade is shipping by sea. Maritime transport refers to the movement of people and goods using boats, ships, and other vessels across seas, oceans, lakes, canals, and rivers. However, due to the long distances and relatively slow speed of ships, this method is rarely used for passenger transport. In contrast, the largest volume of global cargo movement is carried out through maritime shipping. It is estimated that over 70% of international cargo transportation is conducted by sea. Nevertheless, some countries — due to their geographical location and lack of access to open waters — are unable to use this method directly and must rely on alternative or combined transport routes.
